The KUDZU CLASSIC FF Contest – CANCELLED

This just in from Jimmy Jordan:

THE KUDZU CLASSIC FREE FLIGHT contest, scheduled for May 16-17, 2020, in Raeford, N. C. has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus concerns. KUDZU is an annual contest sponsored by the D. C. MAXECUTERS and the CAROLINA AREA FREE FLIGHT ASSOCIATION. The organizers of the contest believe that this is the most sensible decision to make. Rescheduling has been discussed but the uncertainties of when it will be safe to travel and when group gatherings will be allowed again made setting a new date impossible. CAFFA will continue to make plans for the OCTOBER HURRICANE contest scheduled for October 17-18, 2020.

Cloudbusters Indoor Fling – CANCELLED

The Cloudbusters Indoor Fling, scheduled for 03 May 2020 has been CANCELLED.

We are looking at a possible rescheduling for late October or early November, but this is entirely dependent on facility availability.  Without the rescheduling, we will defer to the 2021 Indoor Fling.

Texas Scale Champs Date and Location Change

Duke Horn and Rich Adams have rescheduled the Texas Scale champs from April to the 13th & 14th of June – AND – they changed the location to Hamilton Municipal Airport (TX).  This will now be in conjunction with the Texas Cloud Climbers FF contest.   The FAC Calendar has been updated.

NOTE:  ALL Contest Directors should contact me for updates on your specific contests.  Please let me know if they have had their dates changed – or if they have been canceled all together.  I will update the FAC Contest Calendar

New Plans Archive – PRES BRUNING

Let’s start the new year 2020 off with a HUGE BANG!

Pres Bruning has given us permission to share his plans on the Flying Aces site!  It took a bit of time, but I now have them all (all that I have) on the site. This includes most of his “wildlife bostonians”.

You can find OVER 80 plans here (menu bar/Library/Plans – Page 2):

Site Update – Nov 2019

Just a note to let everyone know of new things on the site:

Kanones have been updated (after a couple months).

Newsletter back issues have been updated – now available through #280 (Nov/Dec 2014)

Don DeLoach and I added a new page – Sierra Hotel Jet Cat Pilots – for Official (CD verified) single Jet Cat flights over 1 minute.  Find it on the menu bar under FAC Awards.

Photo from the FAC Outdoor Champs

Here is a photo that was sent in to us.  This is Jim Gerszewski with his P-30 that won the P-30 event we had at the FAC Outdoor Champs.  As you likely know, P-30 is not an FAC event, but we host the AMA event when we fly at the AMA Flying Site.

Jim is from Wisconsin and we see him at the large FAC events we host in Muncie and he is always a top competitor in OT Stick and OT Fuse.  Well done, Jim!

Blue Max Ceremony!

At the Flying Aces Outdoor Champs in Muncie two weeks ago, we awarded TWO Blue Max medals to well-deserving FACers.

The first mentioned was Chuck Hickson, from the Cloudbusters.  Chuck is a dedicated flyer and through his persistence, he has gained his 16 kanones by beating some of the biggest names on the list – it has taken him awhile, but he has done it!

The second recognized was Duke Horn from Texas.  Duke has been a long-standing member and has an active online presence.  We are glad to have Duke travel up to Muncie each fall.

The awards ceremony was not without its hiccups.  Evidently, I forgot to bring medals AND I forgot to check the list prior to leaving.  During the summer, I knew that we would award Duke in September, but it slipped my mind and he had to remind me.  Such shame upon me.  Chuck was awarded my medal and Duke was mailed a medal just after I got home.

For those of you interested, here is how I can call up individual performances (or maybe you are interested in what they fly to win):

Non-Nats Registration!

DON’T FORGET TO REGISTER for the non-NATS!  Mail in your forms and you will get your Pilot Number.

THEN – Don’t Forget to Register all of your models.  This is not a requirement, but it just makes it easier for all involved.  Most of your models that you flew at the Nats last year will have the green light, just indicate it during the model registration.

After that, you will receive your Time Cards, pre-filled – making THAT easier, too!

And lastly, consider volunteering your time.  It doesn’t have to be all day; the GHQ can use all kinds of short-term help.

See you in Geneseo!

2019 non-Nats Preparations! Get Ready!

It’s that time again!  Here is the registration package (you can also find it on the Contest Calendar event for the Non-Nats).  It is in PDF, so you should be able to open it from where ever.

http://www.flyingacesclub.com/ContestFlyers/2019nnRegPackage.pdf

NOTE!!!!  You need to send in your registration to the address on the form (not to Rick or any other place).

Once you receive your Nats Registration Number, you can pre-register your models online.  This has proven to speed up the process immensely.  YOU MUST HAVE A REGISTRATION NUMBER or you cannot enter your models.  You will receive that number in an email once you are registered.  In addition, you will receive a link to the Add Models form online.
